Privacy Policy
Effective June 29, 2026 · Last reviewed June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Panko Collaborative Law (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information through our website at commonsenselawyer.com. It is written to meet our obligations under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
This page is about our website. If you become a client, the information in your legal file is protected by solicitor-client privilege and our duties under the rules of the Law Society of Saskatchewan, which go beyond this policy. Visiting this site, sending us a message, or booking a consultation does not create a lawyer–client relationship.

What personal information we collect, and why
Information you give us directly
When you contact us, request a consultation, or otherwise reach out, you may provide personal information such as your name, email address, phone number, your city or province, and whatever you choose to tell us about your situation. We collect this so that we can respond to you, schedule an appointment, and decide whether we are able to help. We may use your contact details to follow up with you about your inquiry; you can ask us to stop at any time (see Your rights).
Specific tools we use to receive this information include:
- Online intake and contact forms — handled through Clio Grow, our practice-management intake service. Details you submit are stored in our secure Clio account.
- Online booking — when you book through our scheduler (Clio Scheduler), we collect the contact details and appointment information needed to confirm your booking.
- Website chat — if you use the chat assistant (Intaker), the messages and contact details you provide are collected so a member of our team can follow up. The chat assistant is not a lawyer and does not provide legal advice.
- Email and phone — when you write or call us using the addresses and numbers on this site.
Please don’t share sensitive details in a first message. A website form, chat, or email is not a secure or confidential channel. Please do not send confidential, financial, or other sensitive personal information (for example, your Social Insurance Number, banking details, or the private facts of your matter) before we have confirmed we can act for you and told you how to share information securely. Anything you send before then, you send at your own risk.
Information we collect automatically
Like most websites, our hosting platform records technical information when you visit, in server logs. This may include your IP address, your approximate location (city/region), the type of browser and device you use, the pages you view, the site you arrived from, and the date and time of your visit. We use this information to operate and secure the site, understand how it is used, and improve it. We do not use it to personally identify individual visitors.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device that help a website function and remember preferences. Our site and the services it relies on may set:
| Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Essential / WordPress | Core site functions; set if you log in to an account area, with a temporary cookie to check that your browser accepts cookies. |
| Performance & caching | Page Optimize and our host help pages load faster. |
| Analytics | Jetpack/WordPress.com Stats and (if enabled) Google Analytics, to count visits and understand usage. See below. |
Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but you can set yours to refuse them or to alert you when one is set. Some parts of the site may not work properly without cookies. By continuing to use this site, you consent to our use of cookies as described here.
Analytics
We use Jetpack/WordPress.com Stats (provided by Automattic) and standard hosting analytics to understand site traffic in aggregate. We may also use Google Analytics for the same purpose. These tools collect technical data such as IP address, device and browser details, and pages viewed. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See Google’s Privacy Policy and Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
Embedded content and maps
Some pages may include embedded content from other sites (for example, a Google Map showing our office, or a scheduling or payment window). These behave as though you had visited the other site directly and may collect data about you, set their own cookies, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content under their own privacy policies.
Comments
This website does not accept public comments, so we do not collect comment data or related information.
On what basis we collect your information
Under PIPEDA we collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent and for the purposes described in this policy. By providing information through our forms, chat, email, or phone, you consent to our using it to respond to and serve you. Where the law allows or requires us to collect or disclose information without consent — for example, to comply with a legal obligation — we may do so.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only as needed to run our practice and this website, or where required by law:
- Service providers who process information on our behalf, under agreements that limit their use of it — including our website host and related services (Automattic / WordPress.com, including Jetpack and the Akismet spam filter), our intake and scheduling provider (Clio / Themis Solutions Inc.), our chat provider (Intaker), Google (maps and analytics), and our payment providers (Clover / Fiserv and Clio) for the bill-pay and retainer links on this site.
- Other lawyers or firms, if we are unable to assist you but can refer you to someone who may be able to help — and only with the information you have given us, where appropriate.
- As required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of you, us, or others, or in connection with the sale or transfer of our practice.
Where your information is stored and processed
Some of our service providers store or process information on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States. When that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access by their courts and authorities. We use reputable providers and contractual safeguards intended to protect your information to a standard comparable to its protection in Canada.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes it was collected, or as required by law and our professional obligations:
- Inquiries and intake submissions that do not become files: kept for a reasonable period for follow-up and record-keeping, then deleted.
- Server logs and analytics: kept on a rolling basis by our host and analytics providers, typically up to about a year, often in aggregated form.
- Client files: retained for the periods required by the rules of the Law Society of Saskatchewan and applicable law.
Your rights
You may, at any time, contact us using the details below to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or update it;
- ask us to delete it, where we are not required to keep it;
- withdraw your consent, or opt out of further communications from us.
We will respond as required by PIPEDA. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
How we protect your information
We take reasonable physical, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — which is why we ask you not to send sensitive details through unsecured channels.
Do Not Track
Our site does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” signals from browsers, as no common standard for them has been adopted.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Links to other websites
Our site may link to websites we do not control. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective” date above and post the updated policy on this page.
